True BBQ Stories: Heavy D

Heavy D BBQ was formed on a challenge in 2011, Dave Wharry mentioned that a KCBS competition was going to be held in blue mountain, I spoke to some friends and my son, awe decided to enter. Paid our entry fees and realized my propane smoker was not going to be allowed. So after a bit of research we bought 2 WSMS (22”) commissioned a Weber Performer Grill and figured we were ready to go. We did some research on the and tested some top secret recipes (including peri-peri chicken).

CBBQS MiM Fundraiser - An RMS Roadtrip

I had the opportunity to represent Rocky Mountain Smokers visiting our BBQ friends in Ontario, and was able to attend the CBBQS Memphis in May fundraiser earlier this month. It was great to finally meet some of the great BBQ folks from out East, and start to put names to some of the stories/legends that have been shared. However, I could have done without the snow...

David, Pat and their band of crazy volunteers put on a hell of a spread, great que for sure. The pork belly sliders were my favourite, but I'm always a sucker for amazing brisket which David delivered. The chilli turned out to be a nice little appetiser for the evening, and even though my favourite didn't win, it was a great showing of friendly competition to start the evening.
